About
the KING organisation.
Founded in 1912, the KING name has become synonymous
with industrial boiler plant. In 2004, our growth
continues and we are particularly proud that over
72% of our turnover is repeat business. We believe
that success is due to our special customer relations.
The KING group is one of the UK’s most
successful, privately owned multi-disciplinary
engineering organisations and the key to this
success is our commitment to provide friendly,
personal service and value for money. With specialist
divisions covering a whole range of engineering
services we are able to provide our clients with
a complete package.
Company History
Without a past there would be no future, and
the KING history is a proud one. The story began
when Langham King, the present Chairman’s
grandfather, provided a well-boring and pump repair
service within his local Lea Valley area. Formally
incorporated in 1958 as L.F. King & Son Ltd.,
This was expanded in 1946 when his son, Leonard
F. King took the business into the repair of steam
boilers, agricultural traction engines and industrial
boilerplant. Much of the Lea Valley’s vast
glasshouse industry also had pipework installations
carried out at that time by the Kings. During
WWII the Lea Valley became increasingly important
as the country depended on the area for much of
it’s fresh salad produce. At that time the
Lea Valley also had numerous factories geared
to important aircraft repairs, furniture manufacture,
agro-fertilisers, as well as breweries and large
power stations. L.F. King & Son Ltd. served
most of them and in doing so expanded it’s
engineering experience into every type of production.
During the 1950’s the company steadily
grew in size and reputation with clients throughout
southern England. An important part of the King
service all this time had been the provision of
mobile steam boilers to the horticultural sector
for soil sterilisation. In 1973 under the control
of John King, the company formed perhaps the country’s
first specialist boiler hire service with King’s
Boiler Hire Ltd. This innovative step took the
KING name nationwide, into the very heart of UK
industry, offering engineers steam and hot water
boilers on short or long term hire to cover emergencies
or planned maintenance periods. The service was
a huge success and King’s Boiler Hire became
the benchmark for emergency boilerplant in the
UK.
In 1974 the KING organisation welcomed it’s
fourth generation and it’s steady expansion
of sites.
Over recent years the wealth of knowledge and
energy generated by the Company’s directors
has seen the formation of three more specialist
divisions – industrial pipeline supplies
under the banner of King’s (I.P) Ltd., the
manufacture of Bunded Tanks and Chimneys by Taylor
Fuel Control and more recently Feed Mill Services
(stainless steel fats lines, molasses pipework,
air, water and steam lines etc).
Today, KING’s is truly a multi-disciplined
organisation based on experience, service and
pride in it’s history.
It is with this pride that we continue to serve
every type of industry here at home in the UK
and abroad. Our customers are our lifeblood:
- We value them highly
- We listen to them
- We learn about them and their needs
- We embrace their challenges
- We inspire them with exceptional service and
- We are rewarded with their continued loyalty.
